GHRP-6 (Growth Hormone Releasing Peptide-6) is a synthetic hexapeptide that stimulates the release of growth hormone (GH) by binding to the ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) in the hypothalamus and pituitary. Like GHRP-2, it works independently of GHRH and can synergize with it to amplify GH secretion.
GHRP-6 anecdotally increases appetite and food intake, due to its strong mimetic effect on ghrelin, the “hunger hormone.” In clinical studies, GHRP-6 has shown significant GH-releasing activity. A 1997 study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism found that GHRP-6 increased GH levels in both healthy subjects and patients with GH deficiency, with a more pronounced effect when combined with GHRH.
